The Purple Martin Society, NA is pleased to offer Excluder Gourds to you, the savvy Purple Martin steward. 

Excluder entrances are very specialized entrance holes for martin houses and gourds.  They have revolutionized the martin interest in the last decade.  The batwing type entrance hole permits Purple Martins and is lauded in being the ultimate starling-proof entrance.  Designed by Purple Martin steward, Duke Snyder, Excluder entrance holes have become the cutting edge improvement in martin housing for the control of the pugnacious and aggressive enemy of Purple Martins, the European Starling.

Duke Snyder did his homework and testing of this innovation over a three year period at his very successful martin colony in Western Pennsylvania.  Beginning first with templates that were retro-fitted to martin houses and gourds, now Mr. Snyder offers a distinguished and quality commercially-made plastic gourd, The Excluder Gourd.  This new, large and solid gourd is a gourd preferred by most savvy Purple Martin landlords.  The Excluder is the first manufactured gourd product to offer pre-punched Excluder entrances.

The Excluder Gourd is a new product designed for the benefit of the purple martin.  The Excluder Gourd offers two patented entrance holes (U.S. Patent #6513454) and the crescent to exclude the European Starling from nesting.  Inside and outside porches are sold with all of the above gourds.  The closure cap is a necessity for doing nest inspections. The two center line hole punches on the gourd recommends 5/8" distance from the porch to the bottom of the entrance hole, however the porches may be attached at different levels at the landlord's discretion.

·                (6) 5/16" holes in the bottom of the Gourd allows for draining water that may be blown in through the entrance hole
